If You Have No Prenup

You’ve met Mr. or Ms. Right. You’ve been dating for quite a while, and you have decided to take the leap into this wondrous world we call marriage. You are both so excited, thrilled, dreaming and talking about the wedding, the dress, the honeymoon. Every once in a while, a “hot” topic comes up, like how many children will we have, what about religion, will one person work or will both have careers. You are navigating through all these big issues just fine and then BOOM! Your mate, your love, the father/mother of your future children, the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, asks you to sign a Pre-nuptial agreement.

Frankly, we don’t believe that the true meaning of “marriage” allows for this sort of duplicitous relationship between two people who say they love each other. True love means true love. You can’t have a bonifide loving and successful marriage or relationship when you have a Pre-Nuptial Agreement! People who invented this concept don’t know anything about real love and real relationships. Only people with an agenda would encourage something so anti-love, so anti-relationship, and so anti-marriage.

Avoid making frivolous demands. Unintelligent demands such as making it necessary that your spouse will maintain his or her in a certain way might lead to annulment of the complete document.

Proceed carefully with the conversation. Your spouse’s reaction may be one of surprise or apprehension. Your partner may first assume that the marriage is in trouble or that you want a divorce -especially if you’ve never discussed marriage contracts. Handle this sensitive topic carefully.

He can never get the impression that you are a gold digger. If he buys you an expensive gift early on, jokingly accuse him of “trying to buy you”. Be careful not to overdo it or he will see through the trick. If the subject comes up, mention you would be fine with a reasonable temporary guardianship form, but make sure the “reasonable” is in your favor.

But there are proven techniques that have worked time and again. I have compiled a list of get rich quick schemes that, although I can’t guarantee that you can get rich off them, I can guarantee that somebody somewhere had made tons of money off every single one of these techniques.

In answering these questions, they will also bring in what the law itself has to offer about marriages and eventually come off with the solution that has taken everything into account and will bring you and your spouse to a conclusion that you can both be happy with.
